Vacationist League: Music

Bypassin' the Barroom

(Vacationist League)
John Tilson
There was a time,
it was a while ago.
Stood alone before the crowd
and bared my soul.
Now I stay home,
but I'm not alone.
Kathryn's here,
Alex holds her hand.
They bring more joy
than this man can stand,
sometimes,
and I retreat below.
In the corner of our basement
is my music room.
A guitar, an amplifier,
and a microphone
stand
before me,
and I sing my songs.

Comin' straight to you,
bypassin' the barroom.

There are times
every now and then,
(when I) get it together
play music with friends.
We don't play
all night long,
but we'll rock away
an afternoon.
In these times,
sublime,
the sound
surrounds me.
I close my eyes,
and the music
bids me,
to sing my prayers
while the grass is growin',
and quit bitchin'
'bout the weekend mowing.

Comin' straight to you,
bypassin' the barroom.
