There’s a voice
in my head
that is his
and it says
things to me
that he
said to me.
I can hear
in my mind’s ear
exactly the way
he did say
something to me
that he said
when he
was here.

There’s a voice
in my head
that is his
but he is dead
and the rest
left unsaid
can never be.
Now I find
in my ear’s mind
a voice like his
mine to command
a parting gift
a lasting impression.
