Vacationist League: Music

Easy to Reach

(Vacationist League)
John Tilson
This song ain’t about too much;
this one’s for the charts.
A simple song of a true love gone,
and a new lover’s tender touch.
Easy to Reach (x2)
the harder part is holding on
to vacation plans unchanged
with a lifetime love estranged

Took a trip on an old steam ship
tracing the Poet’s Way
boat cut the plane of the lake
as the water and coastline
sped by at different speeds
It was a complicated picture
of nonlinear superposition
maybe it would be better
simply to say, hey, it was pretty
Easy to Reach (x2)
the harder part is holding on.

Took a ride on a train through the countryside
beautiful and scenic.
The rural charm of the quaint little farm
you know, I did not even see it
I was mesmerized by the dip and rise
of the power lines, top of the window.
Behind them, clouds white and fluffy
were greying to the west
Easy to reach
the harder part is holding on...

...to the bridge made of rope and boards
spanning the gorge
overlooking the river
Waterfall plunging
very inspiring
and for an instant
I’m tempted
then I come to my senses
put up my defenses
and I crawl, to the other side.

All alone on a plane ride home
following a terminal separation
Had a lovely excursion
you were a beautiful diversion
from the troubles that beset me
running from tomorrow
Traveling with you was quite pleasant
parting such sweet... basically no problem.

Easy to reach (x2)
The harder part is flying home.
