Vacationist League: Music

Young Mr. All-American

(Immature Scientist / Vacationist League)
Young Mr. All-American

He was an All-American boy
in every All-American way.
He wouldn't be led to do
what he didn't want to
and he couldn't be made to behave.
He set his All-American sights
on every All-American prize.
Success was the measure
that determined his pleasure
and belayed the fear in his eyes.

High school boys
are so foolish
all the time.
Cars and girls,
skulls and death,
beer and wine.
Sure as the sun rises it sets.
There is a moment you can't live to regret.
And you can take it with you when you go.

He and his All-American friends
were busy leading each other astray.
His parents grew worried
he was too reckless and hurried
and so they took his car keys away.
He had an All-American girl
and she had a little car-- made in Japan.
Any time of night or day
they could still make their getaway
if they wanted to do more than hold hands.

High school boys...

If you live an All-American dream
you mustn't hold your sleep too near.
You can be harvested for beauty
picked well before maturity
like the rosebud in his boutonniere.
Well the night of their lives finally arrived
and after the last slow dance they took a fast ride,
and at this high rate of speed they jumped the curb and struck a tree
and Young Mr. All-American died.

High school boys...

Young Mr. All-American boy.
